The Double Cask range, introduced more recently, blends that European oak with American oak sherry-seasoned casks — American oak generally contributes more vanilla and lighter fruit than its European counterpart, giving Double Cask a distinct identity within Macallan's portfolio rather than a lighter version of Sherry Oak.

Twenty-Five Years in Speyside

Speyside's cooler, more stable climate lets whisky mature more slowly and evenly than Kentucky's bourbon country, which is part of why 25-year-old single malt Scotch is a realistic, well-established category rather than an outlier. This release represents one of the older age statements in the Double Cask range, giving the American oak influence far more time to integrate with the sherry character than younger expressions.

Tasting Notes

At 43% ABV, expect rich fruit, vanilla and delicate spice — dried orange and raisin from the sherry seasoning, softened and sweetened by the American oak influence, with a long, gently spiced finish. It's a more approachable style than Macallan's darkest Sherry Oak expressions while still carrying real age and complexity.
